In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the concept of the Spleen extends beyond its anatomical definition; it represents a central energy system that plays a role not only in the immune system but also in the digestive system. Weakened spleen function can disrupt the metabolism of bodily fluids, leading to the accumulation of “dampness.”
Spleen dampness can lead to an accumulation of internal dampness, resulting in symptoms such as fatigue, heaviness in the body, weakness in the limbs, dizziness, abdominal bloating, diarrhoea and loss of appetite. In clinical practice, this condition is often attributed to the excessive consumption of cold-natured foods or congenital weakness in the digestive system.
