Parental favouritism

  • Unequal relationships between parents and children
  • Sibling inequality
  • Preferential parental affection

Nature

The nature of human individuality presupposes differences in relationships between parents and their children. Those relationships may become problematic when a parent is unable to treat each child in an equally affectionate and engaging manner. If a parent feels more protective of one child or identifies with one child more than her siblings, destructive familial relationships are likely to occur.
