Nutritional anaemia in women

Incidence

About half of all women aged from 15 to 49 and two-thirds of the pregnant women in the developing countries are anaemic, suffering from a deficiency of one or more essential nutrients, chiefly of iron. Severe anaemia in pregnancy increases the risk of maternal mortality. Mild or moderate anaemia impairs well-being, reduces maximal work capacity and adversely affects work performance.
