Misrepresentation of self-sufficiency as socially responsible

  • Myths about self-sufficiency

Nature

The major contradiction in the area of corporate welfare is the myth that to be self-sufficient is the defining factor for being human. This extension of the lie of individualism attacks the interdependence of individuals and of societies. Structures that support relationships of mutual dependence are undermined. Individuals who recognize their dependence on society are thought to be suspect. Wanting to help others is at odds with the prevailing morality.
