Animals are widely used in advertising, television and the cinema. Their participation often involves prolonged captivity, stress, heat exhaustion and even brutal treatment (as in battle scenes) or death before the camera (if the plot so requires it). Live birds crushed and killed during magicians performances and the confinement and handling of animals by ill-trained personnel in theatres and television studios exemplify the dangers to animals used as entertainment, which range from simple discomfort to terror and death.
