Language disorders

  • Impairments in language
  • Aphasia

Nature

Aphasia is a general term for all disturbances of language due to brain lesions but not a result of faulty innervation of the speech muscles, involvement of the organs of articulation, or general mental or intellectual deficiency. Language, here, refers to the expression or communication of thought by word, writing, gesture, to the reception and interpretation of such acts when carried out by others, and to the retention, recall and visualization of the symbols involved.
