Lack of acceptable sites for power plants

Nature

In the last 15 years, finding acceptable sites for power plants has met with increasing problems. Delays of up to 5 or 6 years have been experienced and public resistance has increased, manifesting itself in several ways. Action ranging from legal suits to physical violence has been used to resist sitings. Authorities have been forced to introduce new ad hoc legislation and procedures to assist the siting decisions, but this has met with only limited success.
