Job insecurity for pregnant women

Claim

Many women must choose between motherhood and employment. Employers require that women who are pregnant to quit their jobs. For the majority of women this is financial ruin.

Counter-claim

Offering pregnancy leave for pregnant women creates more problems than it solves. Women of childbearing age are discriminated against because of the additional burden it places on employers. Small companies simply cannot afford to keep open jobs for people who are gone for 6 or 8 weeks. Pregnancy leave discriminates against men, who are also parents of children.
