In 1994, there were about 100 million sexual couplings daily, yielding 900,000 conceptions, half unplanned and a quarter unwanted, 400,000 births, 150,000 abortions of which 30% without medical supervision, and the deaths of 1,400 women due to abortion or pregnancy complications. Family planning is currently insufficient.
