Idealism of opposition groups
Nature
Loyal oppositions are unable to effectively challenge the status quo because of their inherent idealism. They simply cannot view issues from the perspective of the establishment: they have never had the opportunity or it has been a long time ago or they desire not to. While they articulate vague values and hopes about the future, they are unable to create a realistic operating vision of an alternative to existing policies. Frustrated by their lack of progress they revert to open rebellion, escape to a different situation or effectively surrender.
