Human use of veterinary drugs

  • Human use of drugs for animals

Incidence

It was reported in 1994 that drug addicts in rural areas of the UK were stealing veterinary drugs from farms, where many medicines are not locked away because of their frequent use. Instances are ketamine, used to anaesthetize animals, which can induce hallucinations similar to those brought about by Ecstasy, and azaperone, which is normally used to tranquilize breeding pigs.
