Glanders
- Farcy
Nature
An infectious disease found in animals and man with an acute or chronic course caused by the glanders bacillus, or Malleomyces mallei, or Malleus. The sources of the infection are domestic animals. Glanders begins with chills, fever, and pain in the muscles and joints. Numerous pustules, which subsequently develop into ulcers, appear on the skin, especially on the face. They then develop in the internal organs. Hospitalization is imperative. The outcome is often fatal in its acute form.
