Certain chemicals affect consciousness and volition in ways that might be used to lead a person to reveal information he would not otherwise disclose. Truth drugs such as scopolamines, sodium pentathol and sodium amytal, are relaxant agents that release inhibiting controls. Their use to force criminal and political confessions has been attested.
