Dystonia is a neurological movement illness involing stiffening of the extremities.

Incidence

Dystonia affects more than 20,000 people in the UK.

Antipsychotic, antiemetic and antidepressant drugs can induce acute dystonia (an induced drug reaction / condition of sustained abnormal postures, muscle spasms and twitches), and 95% of all acute dystonia cases appear within 96 hours of starting drug treatment.
