Prolonged exposure to climatic cold may result in various cold injuries. Frostbite is the most common and results from the freezing of tissues.

Counter-claim

In 2000, a 29-year-old doctor was caught under ice in a Norwegian river for more than an hour. He survived, although his body temperature decreased to 13.7 degrees centigrade.
