Burden of caring for elderly relations

Families that care for their aged relations, whether in the family's home or in the home of the elderly, are burdened by the physical and emotional demands of that care. The family suffers from a decrease in available time and resources, thus increasing non-communication and stress within the family. Other family members must sacrifice attention to the one in need of intensive care. The costs of absenteeism at work, shortened or interrupted workdays, decreased productivity are high, forcing many such caregivers into part-time employment or even unemployment.
