Nature

Bacterial speck grows on wet tomato plants, and produces a black speck of dead tissue surrounded by a yellow halo on the fruit or leaves. The disease reduces photosynthesis, which curtails fruit production. Many commercial tomato varieties have no genetic resistance to the disease.
