Assassination of environmental activists


Incidence

Game wardens in many countries have been killed by poachers (10 in in Zambia, 23 in Rwanda). Examples of assassinations include: Guy Bradley for efforts to protect egrets in Florida (1905), the chief warden of the Naorongoro reserve in Tanzania (1979) Roger Edward by poachers in Zimbabwe (1980), Joy Adamson for efforts to to prevent poaching in Kenya (1980), Valery Rinchinov in Siberia (1982), Dian Fossey for efforts to protect gorillas in Rwanda (1985), Fernando Pereira, Greenpeace photographer in the explosion of the "Rainbow Warrior", Chico Mendes for protecting Brazil's rainforests from ranchers, mining and timber companies (1988).
