Working-through

  • Working-over

Description

In order to profit from therapy or any system of self discovery, there seem to be periods of inactivity when no apparent progress takes place. Referred to as "working-through", these periods are of assimilation and coming to terms with what has been experienced before new progress can be made. Such periods also occur after crises such as bereavement. Working-over occurs when excitations in the psyche are rearranged internally so as to reduce or prevent the harmful effect of being unable to express them outwardly.
