Spiritual self-abandonment
- Non-attachment
Description
Self-abandonment is the surrender of the self to the divine will, said to be the total expression of love for God. In Christian terms, this self-abandonment is similar to the Vedic non-attachment to the fruits of actions. Renouncing preoccupation with "me" and "mine" is the liberating influence which eventually brings joy - since only by regarding nothing as one's own can one realize that everything in fact is ours for the enjoying (as it is everyone else's). As the Isha Upanishad puts it, "Claim nothing; enjoy, do not covet, his property.
