Description
This refers to a being neutral with regard to states of consciousness and their concomitants which have arisen. Its characteristic is the even carrying on of consciousness and its mental concomitants; its function is the prevention of deficiency or excess, of checking partiality or partisanship; it manifests as neutrality.
Context
One of the formations aggregate (mental coefficients) of Hinayana Buddhism, being listed among the "or-whatever" states, and as profitable primary (always present in any profitable or profitable-resultant consciousness).
