Description

This is the stage of the ascetic who takes the full vows - [mahavrata]

- and commences the life of a monk. The vows include observance of ahimsa, refraining from lying and stealing, total celibacy and renunciation of possessions. However, at this stage discipline may sometimes be neglected.

Context

The sixth stage in the process of separating the soul from the energies of the material world.
