Physical education

Description

This includes physical exercise and conditioning, calisthenics, gymnastics and athletics. It is designed to train the human body in order to improve its function, and to provide an outlet for the natural need for action. This relates to one definition of health which is the capacity of all body organs and systems for high-level function, in contrast to the narrowest definition of health, namely the absence of disease. Individuals may be particularly concerned to develop their musculature in order to increase their strength and to improve their physical appearance. Physical education programmes have been considered by governments as an important component of national (or racial) advancement.
