Peevishness

  • Chronic irritability
  • Fretfulness

Description

An excess of sensibility makes the person over susceptible to every nervous stimulation. Even the most ordinary impressions of the senses exceed the limit of healthy or agreeable excitement. If the excess of sensibility is not restrained it becomes a tyrannical habit, manifesting as an irritable temperament. The irritation, rather than directed at the self, is blamed on others who may only be implicated incidentally. It impedes the growth of sympathy and encourages all kinds of malice.
