Manas awareness (Hinduism)
Description
A fully introspective state of consciousness is one in which the mind (manas), its faculties, structures and contents, are the sole objects. Partly introspective states have given rise to the human endeavours of philosophy, epistemology and psychology; and in the East, to yoga. In the West, the mind-body relation problem is unsolved. In the East techniques for dominating the body by the mind are unsurpassed. Investigation of manas leads to buddhi (wisdom). Manas has been referred to as the lower mind, the messenger between the higher mind and the senses; it needs to be controlled by the buddhi, which is also discrimination.
