Logical and metalogical awareness

  • Vertical and lateral thinking

Description

Common thought processes have, as one nearly universal characteristic, the uncritical acceptance of situational premises and conditions. The given data are taken at face value. Subsequent, organized thinking based on unexamined premises passes as logical, but may be termed linear, vertical, or one-directional. Validation or examination of given or apparent facts creates a loop in the conscious mind and sets up conditions for multi-focal thought whose progression or movement may be lateral or tangential to the linear, single, logical approach. Logical, multilogical and metalogical thinking complement each other.
