Description
While leading a married life, living with his wife and children and performing obligatory duties, the householder practices discipline and is never self-indulgent. He fulfils sacramental rights in submission to the spiritual authority of the brahmins. The noble qualities of love, sacrifice and service are developed within the context of marriage.
Context
This is the second of the four ashramas or stages of life according to Indian tradition, leading eventually to self-realization.
