Form-realm awareness (Buddhism, Tibetan)

  • Rupa-dhatu

Description

This state of awareness is represented as occurring beyond the realms of the senses, high above Mount Meru. There are 4 trance states in this awareness. The first is represented as a 3-stage Brahma heaven where monotheistic conception dominates. The second trance states are represented as a 3-stage gods-of-light (abha) heaven. The triple third trance is represented as being among the gods-of-splendour (shubha). In the game of the Ascension Stages, gods represented as pertaining to the fourth trance are divided among the squares. Three are included in this station of awareness. They are called the unclouded, the merit-born, and the great fruit gods.

Context

In Tibetan Sakya Buddhism this is one of the states in the "Ascension Stages Game". In some sets it is numbered 35 on the board.
