Supporting and consolidating coexistent or conascent states, viriya is the state of the energetic or vigorous which manifests as not giving way or collapsing. Agitation or a sense of urgency, or basic grounds for making energy, are the proximate cause.

Context

One of the formations aggregate (mental coefficients) of Hinayana Buddhism, being listed among the constant states which appear in their true nature, and as general secondary (sometimes present in any consciousness).
