Universe of discourse

The term is used to describe the growth and development of common images in conversation and linguistic intercourse. Any image common to a group of people is a product of such a universe of discourse, namely of the process of sharing messages and experiences. A subculture may therefore be defined as a group of people sharing a particular image.
