Teleology
- Finality
Description
1. Static teleology or fitness is any arrangement that seems to be useful for a certain purpose.
2. Dynamic teleology is the directiveness of processes, of which the following forms may be distinguished: direction of events towards a final state which can be expressed as if the present behaviour were dependent on that final state; directiveness based on structure, meaning that an arrangement of structures leads the process in such a way that a certain result is achieved; equifinality (separately described), namely achievement of the final state from different initial conditions and in different ways; true finality or purposiveness, meaning that the actual behaviour is determined by the foresight of the goal.
