Optimization

1. Adaptation of a system to its environment to secure the best possible performance in some respect (which may preclude optimum performance in another respect).

2. Suboptimization is the process of fulfilling or optimizing some chosen objective which is an integral part of a broader objective which is frequently not consonant with the lower-level objective.
